Dear Members and Friends, please be reminded that the Open Forum on Reiki in Medicine takes place tonight. We have already published some introductory information and released the programme. Now here are the bios of the forum panelists.
Dr. Cheryl Alexis completed her primary and secondary education in Trinidad. She then did undergraduate training at UWI, Mona, Jamaica and obtained an MBBS. She continued to postgraduate training at Hammersmith Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital in the UK, where she obtained an MSc (Haematology) and MRCP (UK). She is currently Senior Lecturer at UWI, Cave Hill Campus and her practice is in Haematology/Oncology. Her special interest is sickle cell anaemia and paediatric oncology. She sings with an ole time calypso band ‘Free Spirits’
Mrs. June Cheeseman is a skilled herbalist with a vast knowledge of the benefits of herbs and vitamins in treating specific problems, as well as devising total wellness programmes. These programmes have been developed over 25 years of research and study. She is also a graduate of the University of Bradford and has over 30 years of management experience.
Dr. Damian Cohall is a Jamaican born pharmacologist who joined the new Faculty of the Medical Sciences at the Cave Hill Campus, University of the West Indies (UWI) – Barbados in 2008. Dr. Cohall also has a profound appreciation of ethnopharmacology and has published internationally on the use of medicinal plants and phytochemicals. His latest publication on botanical medicine is a review of the medicinal plants of Barbados and a validation of their folklore use to treat communicable and chronic non communicable diseases. He currently is in the final stages of editing a book entitled “Medicinal Plants of Barbados for the Treatment of Communicable and Non-communicable Diseases”. Dr. Cohall is also involved in the lecturing of medical students in the Phase 1 of the MBBS programme and is currently the coordinator for the Preclinical (Phase 1) curriculum.
Mrs. Verity Dawson is the current President of the Barbados Reiki Association. She has lived in Barbados since 1984, having originally been posted here with the UN/World Food Programme. She has been practicing Reiki since the end of 1988 and took her Mastery in Usui Shiki Ryoho in 1995. She is a practicing Sekhem and Karuna Master. Verity was proprietor of the Turning Point bookstore and Vegetarian Café for a number of years and has helped many people with her extensive knowledge and experience of Reiki and other healing modalities. She integrates the mind/body/spirit unit in her healing practice and combines that with guidance and counseling (University of the West Indies) plus applying the Heal Your Life principles (Louise L Hay) as a certified coach.
Dr. Jonnalagadda Ramesh has been a Consultant General Surgeon for 33 years. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI, and has a special interest in Minimal Access Surgery.
Dr. Michael Walcott is the recipient of a Diploma and Doctorate in the theory and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. He holds diplomas in Iris analysis and Reflexology; is a qualified Polarity therapist and 2nd degree Reiki practitioner. At present he is a Director and health care practitioner at Integrated Natural Health Clinic.
